Welcome to the website of Modern Hypnosis. I hope you find it useful. Entering into a state of hypnosis or trance is a natural day to day phenomenon, for example when we do something we are very familiar with, like driving a car. If we drive the same route on a regular basis, we can quickly enter a trance like state, where we are almost on autopilot with the ability to instantly come out of trance when we need to. Being engaged in a good book or film can make us oblivious to external noises. So trance is something we do often and is natural. Clinical Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of trance. It has been used in the past alongside orthodox western medicine, in particular in Europe, America and the East. Today, it used in some hospitals and privately in a number of medical practices in the UK. It is also used in eastern medicine, for example as anaesthetic, also used in self hypnosis (or transcendental meditation) to bring about altered states of consciousness to control body physiology. In my practices, Clinical Hypnotherapy is combined with counselling, neurolinguistic programming, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural therapies. The extent of their use is dependent on individual needs and symptoms. The links on this website introduce Clinical Hypnotherapy and its uses, information about my background, training and ethical guidelines. In the ‘applications’ link specific conditions which can be addressed by Clinical Hypnotherapy are included, though many others can also be treated. A number of workshops dealing with stress in and out of the workplace are also outlined. The ‘links’ page will be of interest to those wanting to know more about Clinical Hypnotherapy, some of its governing bodies, training, academic institutions and sites of interest. |
